BEARDED COLLIES

The ring we were allocated was so small even the bitches found it hard to get into stride.  The older dogs in particular found it difficult to stride out.

One dog had dirty teeth, but other than that presentation was good, which I appreciate very much.

Junior D/B (3:1)

1. Harrison’s Hisnhers Diamond Geezer at Anfranjo.  Brown male of 17 months of age.  Liked his overall shape and in good coat for his age.  Lovely head, broad and flat with good mouth and well set ears; eyes toning with coat.  Well bodied, with matching angles front and rear.  Would like a more naturally held tail carriage and a little more length of body, but time is on his side to complete the growing process.  Moved with the most freedom of those entered today; handled to advantage.  BOB/G22. Nobes’ Northlander Irresistible.  Black male of seven and a half months of age.  Liked his size and shape with good length of body.  Nice head, eye, ear set and dentition.  Liked his shoulder and upper arm assembly, correctly shaped rib, rear angulation in tune with front.  Could be a little erratic on the move at times, but displayed good reach and drive when he focused on the job in hand.  Also had a tendency to roach a little when standing, but I think this will iron out as he gets older and relaxes more in the ring.  Nice baby who should do well in the future.  BP.

Post Graduate D/B (3:1)

Two very nice bitches neither of whom were very happy with their lot today.

1. Rudd’s Bendale Lavender Blue at Lubin.  Blue female, as her name would suggest, of three and a half years of age who is sporting a lovely mature coat.  She has a very feminine head, good pigment, eye colour and mouth.  She is balanced throughout, but not displaying the smooth effortless movement I have seen before.  2. Reeves’ Sammara Shimmering Sea.  Light slate of almost two years of age.  Pleasing head, eye and overall shape.  Displayed good reach and drive, but very erratic on the move.  Would like to see both of these girls in a bigger ring to assess their movement properly.

Open D/B (4:1)  At the risk of repeating myself, but don’t think the size of the ring suited any of these dogs as they were not moving out well today.  Would be interested to see them up against one another in a larger ring.

1. Ritchie’s Kirstancourt Kiss N Tail.  RBOB.  Lovely dark slate male of almost six years.  Cracking head with good eye and dentition.  Nice length of neck leading to good shoulder angulation, however, would like slightly longer upper arm.  Correct length and shape of rib, with short loin.  Front and rear well balanced.  In good coat of correct texture.  Only thing that separated these two was the winner’s front reach was slightly better than 2 today.  2. Crouch’s Rainethyme Heritage for Greybeards.  Slate male of two years of age.  Nice head, and eye, slightly shorter in neck than 1; good shoulder angulation.  Correct length and shape of rib, short loin.  Balanced fore and aft with lovely mature coat.  Liked both of these boys; hard to separate them.   3. Rudd’s Lubin’s Dignity.  Brown male of four and a half years of age; the clown of the bunch today.  Gave his handler a hard time and loved every minute of it!  Lovely colour brown with nice head, eye and dentition.  Not as balanced as 1 & 2.

WOLSINGHAM & WEAR VALLEY AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY - Sunday, 5 September 2010

BEARDED COLLIE

Junior D/B (1:1)
Graduate D/B (2:0)
I’m sure these two will change places on many occasions in the future.
1 Weightman’s Debbeacol Pride And Joy JW.  Three year old slate bitch who has a good quality coat covering a
well made body.  Nice balanced head with good eye colour, good mouth.  Nicely arched, well muscled neck leading to well laid back shoulder with good length of upper arm, nice front.  Correctly shaped rib, which could be slightly longer, leading to strong loin.  Front and rear angulation in accord, this bitch moved with balance, reach and drive, and flowed around the ring to BOB/G4.
2 Fox/Farrier’s Bushblades Seaquil for Kayanarra.  Almost two years slate bitch.  Coat in between stages at the moment, but was of good quality, good head, eye colour and mouth.  Neck of moderate length leading to well laid shoulders and good upper arm.  Rib of correct shape and slightly longer than 1.  She moved with
purpose, but not quite the reach of 1 today.

Open D/B (4:2)
1 Weightman/Newton’s Sylvabrae Jewel In The Crown JW.  Five year old slate bitch.  Pleasing shape with mature coat covering a well made body which, to be hyper-critical, could do with carrying a little less weight.  Good eye colour, nice shaped head, good length of neck to well laid shoulders.  Balanced fore and aft she moved with purpose, but not the reach and drive of her kennel mate in the challenge.
2 Parkin’s Rosimar Rainbow ShCM.  Brown bitch of five years of age.  Another with a mature coat of good texture.  Pleasing head, alert expression, overall well put together, but not quite the reach and drive of 1 here
today.

BORDER COLLIE

Puppy D/B (4:1)
Nice class of puppies; I’m sure they will change places regularly.
1 Bell’s Janbell Kiss ‘N’ Tell.  Black/white bitch of almost seven months of age.  Nicely balanced head with good eye, ear set and use.  This bitch presented a balanced picture both on the stand and on the move, borne of balanced angulation fore and aft.  Very sound with a nice front, correct well carried tail.  BOB and pleased to see her pulled out for further consideration in the adult group.  PG2.
2 Kempton’s Borderbrook I’m The Diva
3 Grant/Bell’s Janbell Valentino

Junior D/B (3:1)
1 Kempton’s Borderbrook Show Me.  One year old black/white dog.  Nice shape all through, pleasing head, eye, neck and shoulder angulation.  Could do with slightly longer upper arm, but moved well.
2 Strathmore/Down’s Sheltysham Spring Boquet.

Graduate D/B (3:0)
1 Bain’s Altamera Casanova’s Image at Baindream.  Black/white two year old dog.  Nice head with good eye colour and well set ears.  Made well with good bone, well sprung rib and strong loin.  Nice height to length proportions.  Moved with reach and drive.
2 Borderbrook Show Me
3 Heggie’s Dalond Blaze Of Glory

Limit D/B (7:1)
1 Down’s Sheltysham Shapeable.  Alost five years black/white bitch.  Another with a balanced head and good eye.  Moved soundly with adequate reach and drive.  Nice overall shape.
2 Errington’s Hiseburn Cassie
3 Maxwell’s Locheil True To You of Gilestria

Open D/B (6:1)
1 Maxwell’s Janbell Close Encounter at Gilestria.  Another black/white dog of four years of age.  Pleasing head shape with good ear set, which he used well.  Nice overall shape and balance he moved well when he settled.  Couldn’t quite match the reach and drive of the puppy for BOB, but made a good account of himself today.
2
Kempton’s Locheil Manhatten at Borderbrook JW
3 Bell’s Bordertime Total Eclipse at Janbell JW

SHETLAND SHEEPDOG

My first time judging Shelties.  Dirty teeth were in abundance and I found several ‘choppy’ movers.  On the whole though I felt satisfied with my winners, and was very pleased that my BP took the Pastoral Puppy Group.

Junior D/B (3:1)
1 Davison’s Danrobien Pure Genious.  Eight month old sable dog.  Nice for overall shape and make, with pleasing head of correct proportions with good eye and ear set.  Nicely laid back shoulder and good length of upper arm.  Balanced rear angulation allowing this dog to move with a smooth elegant gait exhibiting good
reach and drive.  Very pleased to see him win the Pastoral Puppy Group.  BP/PG1.
2 Shotton/Holmes’ A Time To Dream.

Graduate D/B (2:1)
1 Berry’s Simcourt One Vision JW.  Two year old sable bitch.  Nice head with good eye and nicely set ears which she used well.  Liked her overall balance which showed in her fluent movement.  Stood alone, but worthy
winner.

Open D/B (7:0)
Lovely class with some very nice dogs.
1 Clegram’s Smiddyshaw She’s The One.  Tricolour bitch which my notes say is 10 years of age and the catalogue says one year … however old she is she outmoved everything else today.  Lovely shape all through head and body.  Nice eye and good ear set and usage.  Coat of correct texture and density.  Everything in the right place and showing in her movement.  It was a pleasure to watch her covering the maximum amount of ground with the minimum of effort … I could have watched her all day.  BOB and pleased to see her pulled out for further consideration in the group.
2 Davison’s Madaneb Minha Moca at Danrobien
3 Berry’s Japaro Dream Design at Simcourt

BEARDED COLLIE CLUB OF SCOTLAND Saturday, 25 June 2010

I would like to thank everyone who voted for me to judge my first Breed Club Open Show; it was a memorable experience and a pleasure to judge at such a beautiful location. Thanks also go to the exhibitors who attended on the day and the Committee for making me feel so welcome and cared for.

Mouths were good, with a few exceptions, and all exhibits were well presented, however, some coats were excessively long.  In some cases, I was splitting hairs when making decisions; on the other hand some decisions were made easier by the lack of muscletone; as there were several overweight dogs, this didn’t really come as a surprise to me.

On the whole temperaments appeared good, with little sign of nervousness, and no signs of aggression.

Special Vintage Dog (1)  1.  Aughey’s Aughenaird Clyde’s Double.  12 year old dark slate with nice dark eye and good shoulder angulation.  Moved ok, but not at his best today.

Veteran Dog (4:3)  1.  Buchanan-Hislop’s Ch Ciopar Celtic Razzle’s Boy JW.  Eight year old slate with a lovely coat of correct texture; not over done.  Well made dog with a good head, eye, neck, shoulder and rib.  Overall a very balanced dog of correct length to height proportions, who was well muscled and moved with purpose, covering plenty of ground.  Despite standing alone well deserved his first prize and subsequent BVIS.

Puppy Dog (1)  1.  Moffat’s Nickelby’s Tailor Made for Kyleca (Imp Swe).  Slate of 11 months old.  Long, lean well made dog with nice head, good shoulder, upper arm and rib.  With rear angulation matching with front he moved with ease when settled. Could have watched him move all day.  BPD/BOSP/RBPIS.

Junior Dog (2:0)  1.  Armour/Fletcher’s Talraz Trail Blazer.  Slate of just over one year old.  Balanced head, nice expression, deep chest, balanced throughout.  Won this class on his smoother movement.  2.  Fullerton/ Gibson’s Bustroc Killicrankie.  15 month old slate.  Another with a nice head and expression.  Well balanced, but not as settled on the move as 1.

Yearling Dog (2)  1.  Bustroc Killicrankie.  Moved much better in this class.  2.  Aughey’s Lochbarra Dark Shadow for Aughenaird.  Slate of almost two years.  Good head eye and rib, well muscled.  Moved well.

Maiden Dog (1)  1.  Nickelby’s Tailor Made for Kyleca (Imp Swe).  Much more settled in this class.

Novice Dog (3)  1.  Nickelby’s Tailor Made for Kyleca (Imp Swe).  2.  Bustroc Killicrankie.  3.  Stott’s Gillaber Ballindalloch

Debutant Dog (1)  1.  Gillaber Ballindalloch.  Brown; just over two years of age.  Pleasing head, good pigment and eye colour, lovely coat colour of good texture.  Not relaxed here today, which showed in his movement.

Undergraduate Dog (4:0)  1.  Gill/Cook’s Gillaber Ballater.  Dark slate, just over two years of age.  Good head with nice eye giving pleasing expression, good spring of rib.  Balanced dog who moved well to take this class.  2.  Peart’s Gillaber Ballachulish for Talluarchy.  Slate dog, litter brother to 1.  Similar in type, just didn’t move as well as his sibling.  3.  Lochbarra Dark Shadow for Aughenaird.  4.  Gillaber Ballindalloch

Post Graduate Dog (3:1)  1.  Drummond/Forrest’s Kiltondale Mid-Knight.  Very handsome, alert, dark slate, just over three years of age, who was not overdone in any way.  Broad flat skull, good eye colour.  Moderate, slightly arched and well muscled neck.  Presented a nice shape, with good length to height ratio, good topline both moving and standing.  Moved with plenty of reach and drive.  BD/BOS 2.  Cunningham’s Bustroc Tam O’Shanter.  Three year old slate with good head and eye, but not as balanced as the winner.

Limit Dog (5:0)  1.  Gill/Cook’s Ramsgrove Homeward Bound to Gillaber.  Four year old blue in good coat of correct texture.  Eye toning with coat, balanced head.  Well sprung rib, and balanced fore and aft.  Maintained a good topline both standing and on the move, but not quite the reach of some of the other class winners..  2          Bustroc Tam O’Shanter.  3.  Paterson’s Gallus Absolute Quality.  4.  Rudd’s Lubin’s Dignity

Minor Puppy Bitch (3)  Three lovely puppies who I am sure will change places on a regular basis.  First and second just a little more together than third at this time, but she’ll have her day too, I’m sure.  1.  Durrant’s Pattishawl I Have A Dream at Brathens.  Blue of almost nine months.  Balanced throughout and very similar to 2.  Nice head and neck with good shoulder angulation, nice length of rib and short loin, neat hocks.  Slightly better balanced than 2 at the moment, she moved with purpose showing good reach and drive.  BPB/BPIS2.  McClymont’s Reaosh Deep Purple In Rock.  Another blue of six and a half months old with a nice head, neck and good shoulder angulation.  Moved well.  3.  Drummond/Forrest’s Kiltondale Roxette.

SOUTH WEST WORKING & PASTORAL BREEDS ASSOCITION - Saturday, 1 May 2010

BEARDED COLLIES

Nice entry, thank you all very much. My old friend, dirty teeth surfaced again, and some dogs could do with a little more attention paid to the presentation of their coats, but overall I was pleased with the quality of the exhibits present. I was especially pleased to see my BOB getting short-listed in a very large group, and my BP getting placed in the puppy group. Well done both of you.

Puppy D/B (6:3) 1. White/Ellis’ Karmeliann Stargazer. Blue boy of almost 11 months, who initially was unsettled but this changed with practice! Nice overall shape with good pigment and dark coat. Correct dentition, broad under jaw, well proportioned head. Nicely arched neck leading to well laid shoulder and good length of upper arm. Emmingham’s Willowmead Perfect Class.

Post Graduate D/B (5:3) 1. Curry/Wilson’s Sweetly Scrumptious with Davankirk.  Brown girl of almost three years.  More mature than 1 with a lovely coat, but not as free on the move.  Balanced on the stand, however, at times she did not maintain her topline on the move.

Open D/B (8:3) Excellent class to judge.  1. Woolley’s Pipadene Time To Shine for Aratika, and shine she did for me today!  BOB.  Liked her as a puppy, and happy to be able to say I still do.  Brown girl of almost three years, she is balanced all through and has a good head, correct mouth, pleasing expression, nice length of neck which is well arched leading to well angulated shoulders.  Correct length and shape of rib.  Angulation balanced fore and aft, allowing her to move with beautiful easy strides and taking this class and BOB with ease.  2. Hood’s Bryonyhill Miss Tickle JW. RBOB.  Lovely dark slate girl of two and a half years with nice dark eye, lovely shape and balanced all through, she didn’t move as I had seen her do before, but did enough to take second place in a very nice class.  However, when called to challenge for RBOB, she pulled out the stops and moved with a lovely free moving gait which would have given the winner a run for her money. 3. Burscough’s Can Ch Chetcote Renaissance for Kilfinan (Imp Can).

BEARDED COLLIES

A good quality entry of well presented exhibits, however, my pet hate surfaced again ... dirty teeth.  I know there are worse hings in the ring, but this one is inexcusable!  However, it made my day when my BOB went forward to win Pastoral G1 and then Best In Show.  He didn’t put a paw wrong all day, well done both of you.
Puppy D/B (4:1)
1. Ferrigno’s Pelido Disaronno Amaretto.  This young lady headed a class of very nice puppies and she took my eye as she entered the ring.  Very pretty 7 month slate/white bitch that was very unsettled initially.  However, she settled enough as time went on for me to give her the class.  Balanced head; nice expression; dark eye; good dentition; lovely neck.  Nice overall body shape with balanced angulation; good quality coat BP.  2. Griffiths’ Pastraka Enchanted Knight.  3. Penton’s Ravalonsky’s Elahad of Benfalcon.
Junior D/B (2:1)
1. Griffiths’ Pastraka Enchanted Knight.  Very nice 6½ month slate/white dog that was unlucky to meet 1 in the puppy class.  Balanced head, nicely arched neck leading to well laid shoulders.  A little ‘bum high’ at the moment, but this is only to be expected at his age.  Got him to move again despite standing alone and he moved much better this time.
Post Graduate D/B (4)
1. Potterdale Star Audition for Pepperjay JW BOB/G1/BIS.  What a lovely boy; I judged this lad nearly 12 months ago when he gave a lot away in maturity to the BOB.  However, he has come on very strongly since then and now looks just the ticket.  Almost 2 years, slate/white male, just right for size and a lovely overall shape, he has a lovely strong head without any sign of coarseness; a nicely arched neck leading to well laid shoulders; correctly shaped well sprung rib; short loin and correct tail set.  Just the right amount of coat of good texture. Balanced front and rear angulation enabling him to move with excellent reach and drive, and gaining him BOB.  His quality stood out in the Group ring and the BIS ring and took him all the way to the top today, making me very proud.  2. Fiedler’s Saskyadu Magical Moonlight at Malarkey RBOB.  3. Dychix Niagara Blues at Mavbran.
Open D/B (3)
1. Clark’s Toriavic Headstrong.  Very pretty 4 year old slate/white bitch.  Another I have judged before and her coat has improved 100% since then, but she is still lacking finish at the moment.  Lovely expression coming from dark eyes; good dentition; nice neck.  Moved well owing to her balanced
angulation.  2. Penton’s Snowmead Sharp Decision of Benfalcon JW.

BEARDED COLLIES

Nice quality entry, however it’s a pity open show entries are on the decline, which does not bode well for up and coming judges.  Eye colour is not our breed’s fortune at the moment, and I am struggling to see how we are going to turn this around as light eyes seem to be in the majority.  I only found one exhibit with dirty teeth; otherwise dentition on the whole was good, however, presentation was a little lacking in some exhibits, which is a first in my judging career.  I think some exhibits would benefit from being groomed more often with a brush rather than a comb, which can have a damaging effect on a Beardie’s coat, as I know to my cost!  Muscle tone is another area which requires improvement as a well muscled dog will always move better than one without.
I was very pleased to see my BOB and BP being placed in their respective groups.
Puppy D/B (1) It was unfortunate that the other two puppies here today had been entered in Junior and Post Graduate as this would have made a nice puppy class if they had all been entered together!  1. Bridger’s Bendale Shady Lady.  At just over 6 months this pretty slate girl who stood alone in her class was very much the baby of the day.  She has a feminine head and nice overall shape, but was very unsettled making it a little difficult to assess her movement.  I am sure she will settle down with practice.
Junior D/B (2:0) 1. Marlow’s Seabride Forever Free.  Almost 18 months old and going through a pale coat stage; he has a good head and kind expression; good length of well arched neck leading to adequate shoulder angulation.  A balanced dog overall with nice low set hocks.  Moved well.  2. Hood’s Bryonyhill Miss Tickle.
Post Graduate D/B (7:2) 1. More’s Balfarg Be Ba Balouie.  3 year old dark slate boy with nice harsh jacket coming through.  Good head with a dark eye giving lovely expression; good shoulder angulation; body still has some maturing to do, but he has plenty of time.  Balanced angulation throughout which showed in his movement.  Moved with reach and drive.  2. Ritchie’s Kirstancourt Kiss N Tail, very unlucky to meet 1.  3.  Hood’s Bryonyhill Mr Ree.  BP/PG4.
Open D/B (3:1) 1. Edwards’ Sengalas Leading Lady of Roxilyn JW.  Very mature for her 3 years this plainly marked lady presents a lovely picture both standing and on the move. Lovely overall shape with a strong but feminine head; well arched neck; good length of upper arm; well sprung rib of correct length and short strong loin.  Her balanced angulation and excellent muscle tone showed in her movement.   I was pleased to award her BOB and very happy to see her go on to win G2.  2. Clark’s Toriavic Headstrong.  RBOB.

Post Graduate D/B (1:0) 1. Hamson’s Wizaland Highland Diamond.  19 months black & white bitch, stood alone, but moved well.  Nice head with strong muzzle.  Good overall shape.  RBOB

Open D/B (5:2) 1. Anderson’s Caristan Catch Me If You Can ShCM. BOB/G2. 3 year black & white dog.  Liked him on entering the ring, and was pleased to see him well placed in the group ring.  Good head, neck and shoulder placement.  Pleasing shape and balanced overall.  Moved with reach and drive.  2. Atkinson’s Claygar De Boo Tante.  3) Hamson’s Gillesta What A Gem.

BEARDED COLLIES

A small but extremely good quality entry.  I was so pleased to see my BOB and BP win their respective groups.

Junior D/B (3:0) 1. Worthy RBOB.  Wood’s Potterdale Star Audition for Pepperjay.  13 ½  month old slate & white dog.  What a lovely boy; giving a lot away in maturity to BOB, but will trouble the best when he matures.  Just right for size and a lovely overall shape, he has a balanced head and nicely arched neck leading to well laid shoulders, correctly shaped well sprung rib, short loin and correct tail set.  Moved with reach and drive, as did all the exhibits in this breed.  2. BP/PG1 Woolley’s Pipadene Time To Shine for Aratika.  3. Styles’ Dychix Niagara Blues at Mavbran.

Post Graduate D/B 1. BOB/G1.  Nicholls-Ward’s Bumbleridge Naughty ‘N’ Nice JW.  Almost 2 years old slate & white dog.  Broad strong flat skull with dark eye and alert expression.  Well laid shoulders, deep chest, well sprung rib of correct shape, short loin and good tail set.  Nicely balanced and well put together young man, which showed in his effortless movement.  Tough decision between 1 and 2.  2. Potterdale Star Audition for Pepperjay.  3. Dychix Niagara Blues at Mavbran.

Open D/B 1. Bumbleridge's Naughty 'N' Nice JW.  2. Perry's Benbecula Buttascotch Bess.

OTLEY CANINE SOCIETY - PREMIER OPEN SHOW - Sunday, 3 December 2006

BEARDED COLLIES

My thanks go to the exhibitors for their excellent entry, and sportsmanship.  Shoulders were generally good, especially in my winners, but eyes are getting lighter, giving a harsher expression than is the Beardie norm.  All exhibits were presented well and dentition was good all round.  Only one dog had dirty teeth.  Would have liked more muscle on quite a few exhibits.

Puppy D/B (5:1)

Nice class of quality puppies; I am sure they will change places on a regular basis.  1.Lee’s Paleeda Pizazz BP/PG3.  7m old black/white dog with nice head, leading into well laid shoulders and balanced angulation.  Moved out well.  Only just pipped 2 to the post.  2.Thorpe’s Merrythorpe Miss Daydream.  3.Ferguson & Thorpe’s Merrythorpe Mr Sandman at Lexalby.

Junior D/B (8:3)

1.Thorpe’s Ardensax Antony at Merrythorpe.  Handsome 15m old blue/white dog with good head, pigmentation and lovely expression.  Very nice outline, good bone.  Balanced angulation.  Well handled.  2.Palfreyman’s Barnswood’s New Venture.  3.Merrythorpe Miss Daydream.

Post Graduate D/B (6:3)

1.Newton & Weightman’s Sylvabrae Jewel in the Crown RBOB.  22m old slate/white bitch that I have admired on many occasions; she did not disappoint me today.  Feminine head, nicely arched neck and well laid shoulders.  Good rib and loin, correct length to height ratio and balanced angulation.  Lost out to BOB on maturity, but no less a winner for it.  2.Ardensax Antony at Merrythorpe.  3.Ritchie’s Sinnamon Scirrocco.

Open D/B (11:4)

1.Stead’s Gillaber Kincorth JW BOB.  This young man took my eye as he strode into the ring, with his effortless easy movement and his mature look; he certainly stood out in the crowd.  21m old slate/white dog; just right for size and shape.  Well laid shoulders.  Nice rib and loin; and all covered with a lovely harsh jacket.  Balanced throughout.  2.Ardensax Antony at Merrythorpe.  3.Newton’s Sylvabrae Smile A While.
